LiDAR or RTK?

RTK and LiDAR are two wireless navigation systems, not two names for one thing. RTK uses a reference antenna, LiDAR a sensor. Updated 12 September 2026.

RTK and LiDAR both remove the cable, but not in the same way. Navimow belongs to the RTK family, Mova LiDAX to the LiDAR family. Merging them into one "wireless" table erases the only difference that matters on site.

RTK: satellite and antenna

A reference antenna sits on an open point and the robot positions by satellite. Upside: no cable and easy zone editing in the app. Limit: RTK needs sky, and accuracy drops under dense tree cover.

LiDAR: onboard sensor

The robot maps its surroundings while driving, with no antenna. Upside: it works where satellite reception is poor, including under trees. Limit: positioning depends on visible features.

Deciding by your plot

Open ground, large area, clear sky: RTK is the natural choice. Wooded plot, cluttered surroundings, no antenna wanted: LiDAR is more tolerant.
